Minty Windows

Hi everyone!

I have a bit of nail art for you today! I was inspired by the unearthly beautiful "Window to my Soul" design by Glitterfingersss - you can see it here. Super pretty right?

I decided to not recreate the design, but to do something similar. I was in a minty mood, and gold goes great together with mint ;) So I picked Miss Minty by Gosh and Vampire Vanity by Bourjois for this design.

I started out with my OPI Nail Envy as a base coat. Then I did two coats of Miss Minty and waited until it was fully dry. I sectioned off the outer parts of my nails with tape, and rubbed the polish in the middle off with polish remover.

When that was done, I put some Nail Envy on again and added the gold flakes. I removed the tape and added my Fast Drying Top Coat by Only You.

I don't think I've chosen the easiest and most effective method to create this design. The polish remover crept under my tape and also ate up some polish that wasn't supposed to be removed! It got a bit messy and I had to go over certain parts again with Miss Minty. You can see this in the design: the mint polish looks quite thick and odd in some places.

Because of this, I'm not really happy with how the design turned out. I love the idea and if you don't look too closely it looks great. I think the negative space looks awesome with the gold flakes though!

I already have another negative space + flake design in my head! I love the effect you get when combining those two.

What do you think of this design? And what do you think of negative space designs like this in general? Normally I don't really like negative space on me because my nails are quite stained, but the flakes really cover all the staining lol!

Thanks for reading!

  4. I love the idea of these and the combination of the polishes is great as well.
The acetone vs tape thing is a bit tricky, no idea how to deal with that. I think they look awesome anyway, though!

    1. I'll definitely try a different technique next time because the acetone and tape was really messy :p Thanks Saskia!

    1. Thanks Ananka! It's a nice polish indeed, the only thing I dislike a bit is that the gold flakes can stick out a bit so you need a good top coat to smooth it out :)

    2. I think if I did a negative space design myself I would find that I like them a lot more, but I've never attempted it ... (yet ;) )....
