Haunted Houndstooth
BOOOOOOHH!! *spooky voice*
I finally have a proper Halloween design! To be honest, in my country we don't really celebrate Halloween. We often get together with friends, dress up a bit scary and then watch a creepy movie (which I don't even like because, well, they're creepy!). But the looking forward to Halloween like people seem to do in America, we don't really have that here. Hence why I don't really do a lot of Halloween designs; I just don't feel it. But now and then, I get in the spooky spirit!
Anyway, I wasn't sure beforehand if I'd have the time to create a new design for Halloween because I've been swamped with school work, but I was able to squeeze it in luckily!
Last year I did some Halloween slime drips for Halloween - you can see them here. I was looking back at my old posts and really liked that design, so I decided to create some more slime drips this year!
The super fun thing is: the amazing Jacqui from Craftynail has sent me some gorgeous stamping plates she didn't want to use anymore, and when they arrived and when the stamper I had ordered finally arrived too, I couldn't wait to try out the plates! It was incredibly nice of her - thanks again Jacqui! I will have so much fun using these, like, how cool is it to just stamp an image onto your nails?! V cool if you ask me ;) The plates she sent me are verrrrry purty - with animals and a forest, and with lots of elegant and fun patterns.
Hehe so the picture below depicts me being overly excited about stamping! Remember, this is my first go at it EVER.
I found a few creme polishes in my stash that seemed to work well for stamping - including my black one from Maybelline. Since I love love love houndstooth print, I decided to do a slime covered houndstooth design!
I used OPI's Alpine Snow, Maybeline's Blackout, and a green glow in the dark neon polish from Born Pretty Store (if you want to buy something there, feel free to use my 10% off discount code XDX31!)
I did 2 coats of Alpine Snow, and then stamped on it with the black polish. The image on the plate was a bit too small for my nails (I do have very long nails), so I had to stamp a few times to cover the entire nail - that's why the image sometimes doesn't look the way it's supposed to. Stamping correctly is hard!
It is, however, undoubtedly much quicker and less frustrating than trying to paint houndstooth by hand! I can't believe how fast the stamping was, it was awesome!
Anyway, after that, I painted the slime drips with white polish first because the green one doesn't cover well. And after that, I just painted the green on top! It's SO SO NEON. I'm glad my pictures really depict the neon-ness of the polish so well!
And like I mentioned before, the green slime glows in the dark! The most glow-y nails were the ones I held under a lamp for a few minutes to "load" them.
I had actually forgotten that this green polish was glow in the dark, and when I went to bed at night I was like "huh wait what is this light emenating from my nails?"
I wore these for a day, but then I got annoyed by how obviously Halloween they were and I needed something less eye-catching :) The stamping is definitely something I will do again though! There are a lot of gorgeous images on Jacqui's plates - I'll try to remember to take pictures to show you :)
I think these nails actually came out amazingly good seeing as it's my first time ever stamping. I've read a lot of stamping horror stories where it just wouldn't work no matter what they tried, but luckily I've found a good polish/stamper/plate!
What do you think of these? I quite like the fact that it's not "just" slime drips, but that they are in fact really dripping over something :) Plus, I was able to do this on both hands! Photographic evidence of that fact is sadly lacking though (unless you include the glow in the dark picture where you can only see some green light)
Thanks for reading!

I have similar thoughts about Halloween - I don't celebrate it and don't feel it. Great mani, anyways. Stamping patterns are often too short for my nails too and you managed great.
ReplyDeleteThank you! :)
Deletelooks really good. This neon green is spectacular on the black &white background. And I love this stamping pattern :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! Yes I love the green against the black and white :)
DeleteYour stamping looks amazing! I kind of gave up on stamping, I could never get the images to come out like I wanted them too haha! I love this design, it's the perfect mix of stylish fall patterns and Halloween creepiness :) Also, the glow in the dark nail polish looks really cool!
ReplyDeleteThank you Lucy! I'm so glad the stamping worked out well for me - if I had to try over and over again I would probably give up too! Maybe it's your polish of stamper that isn't doing its job properly? Yay for glow in the dark, it's such a cool effect :D
DeleteThese are so fab- I just saw them on Nailpolis and had to come over here to comment. The design is sooo original and fab for halloween - I love how luminous those drops look. Fab mani all round (oh and I love the glow in the dark pic!!!) Xx
ReplyDeleteAww thank you so much! That's super sweet of you to say :) The neon polish is really amazingly bright. It's also a bit thick, which normally would be a bad thing but not for this design, because it makes the slime drips look exactly like thick slime! :D
DeleteThis looks good. I really like that neon green and glow too! Wow :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you Ananka!
DeleteThese look amazing! The classic black n white with green slime is awesome! Im so glad you like the plates :)
ReplyDeleteI luuuurve them! Thank you so much Jacqui!!
DeleteWe don't celebrate Halloween either here in our country, but in some clubs and places they have scary party's and everything is decorated. So we carved with my daughter a pumpkin, just for fun! In Transylvania we celebrate this period of the year, by remembering our past ones, we go to the cemetery and light up candles, it sounds spooky but it is not :)
ReplyDeleteAbout your nail art, wow, the design and the green polish is striking, so it is perfect for Halloween, and the stamping came out great!
Oh, carving a pumpkin, that sounds fun indeed! I haven't done that yet :) Going to the cemetary to remember your loved ones doesn't sound scary at all! It sounds like a really sweet thing to do :) Thank you Andrea!
DeleteThese are so unique!! I'm loving them! I haven't tried stamping yet either! Well I did it once an it failed so I haven't tried again! I will have to have another go because it always looks so good!! That green nail polish is so cool by the way! So bright! It made me LOL when you said you forgot it was glow in the dark and noticed it at night :P xx
ReplyDeleteThank you Emily! I look forward to seeing your stamping efforts! Haha yeah I totally laughed at myself too when I realized it was glow in the dark :D So silly!
Deletei love this manicure and glow in the dark green too !
ReplyDeleteThank you Bubica!
DeleteStamping is hard, I know! But well done! It's looks amazing with the green goo :-D
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the stamping came out so good here :) Thank you Miriam!

ReplyDeleteHehe, stamping and dripping, that sounds so funny! Thank you Franzi! :)
DeleteI love these! These are perfect for halloween and I love the twist! Houndstooth is one of my favourite designs too - I'm yet to try it out and stamping for that matter too! Haha I can image how confused you were at night with the green glowing nail polish! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Jayna! Haha yeah, so silly of me to forget they were glow in the dark! :D
