Shimmer Polish - Courtney

*Disclaimer: this item was received for review. All opinions expressed are my own and are not influenced by anyone or anything.

Hello!

It's Shimmer time again! Today I'll be showing you Shimmer Polish Courtney, who is totally jummy.

Courtney has a medium pink/red jelly base with rainbow glitter. In the bottle, she mainly looks red and blue but she is so much more than that. When I saw Courtney in the bottle she didn't wow me, but on my nails I loved her a lot.

I do have to mention that my Courtney seems to be an updated version - on the Shimmer blog, you can see some older swatches where Courtney just has a clear base. Or you can click here for Boombastic Nails' swatches which show a clear base too - this is from 2013.

Emily from Nail Polish Society swatched Courtney too recently and she also noticed it had a pink/red base - you can check out her swatches here. I emailed Cindy from Shimmer Polish about this and she confirms Courtney has a reddish base now. So if you buy Courtney now, a reddish base is included!

With all the different colours, Courtney is like a little party on your nails. I spotted blue, green red, orange, pink, yellow and purple glitters.

I loved how happy Courtney looked so I did two designs with her.

For the first one I used two very old polishes - like really, really old. I bought them before my polish obsession so they must be around 4-5 years old now! They are thick and gloopy but I managed to pull off applying them :D I hadn't planned to do my nails but I suddenly felt the urge to paint them, and I was at home without any of my lovely polishes so I used these two old ones instead.

They are: Essence Just Rock It! and Rimmel Rose Libertine.

I did 3 coats of Rose Libertine on my thumb, index finger and pinky, and added Courtney. Because she has a reddish base colour, she made the Rimmel polish much more vibrant and a bit darker. I love the look!

I did one coat of dark blue - but I don't think this polish used to be a one coater lol, it's just gotten way too thick - and dabbed on Courtney near my cuticles. As always with Shimmer Polishes, Courtney was super easy to use and I had no trouble with her at all.

Excuse the tip wear please! I couldn't take pictures right away.

For the second design I chose a softer look and used Essence Pure Soul and Claire's Fairy Wings.

I did a gradient on my thumb, index finger and pinky with Pure Soul and Fairy Wings. I added one coat of Courtney and that gave a more pink look to the gradient.

I used just Fairy Wings on my middle finger and added one coat of Courtney. On my ring finger, you see Courtney swatched on her own in 3 easy coats.

I have some close-ups for you too! Top left is one coat of Courtney on top of Rose Libertine; top right is three coats of Courtney on her own; bottom left is one coat of Courtney on top of Just Rock It!; and bottom right is one coat of Courtney on top of Fairy Wings (I love how the bright blue glitter looks on top of Fairy Wings).

What do you think of Courtney? And which of these designs is your favourite?

Shimmer Polishes cost $12 and come in bottles of 15ml. You can find them here on the Etsy shop, and here on the Shimmer Polish blog are even more polishes to choose from. You can look at more swatches and designs with Courtney here (some with clear base and some with red base as I mentioned at the beginning of this post).

Thanks for reading!

  6. The first manicure is a little bit more serious and classy and the second one is girly and playful, of course that I can not choose a favorite one and I like them both. Courtney is a wonderful polish!
