OMD2: Day 7 - Holographic

Hello everyone!

My second entry for the OMD2 Challenge is this design with my holographic Claire's polish!

As said in my post exam haul post, I bought a very pretty Claire's polish with holographic bar glitter, and I thought it'd be perfect for this prompt! This post will be filled with sort of out of focus pictures, because that's the only way I was able to capture the holographicness. In return for the blurryness, you get rainbow sparkles!

I used Blackout by Maybelline and Disco by Claire's for this design.

I painted two coats of Blackout, and sectioned off parts of my nails with tape to make straight lines with Disco. Which was a better idea in theory than in practice - sectioning off things with tape to then cover it with bar glitter doesn't work as well as covering it with normal polish. So I had to push the bar glitter around a bit and it got a bit messy, but I had spent a lot of time on it so I didn't want to take it all off again. Anyway, the rainbow sparkles still look pretty! I finished it with a few generous layers of top coat to keep all the bar glitter in place.

I also added a little tear shaped stud to finish the look. And a final picture because RAAAIIINBOOOOWS. I feel like I should burst into some rainbow song, but the only one I kow is Somewhere Over The Rainbow which doesn't really bring accross the happy rainbowyness I want.

So voila, my second entry for OMD2! I am loving this Claire's polish so much, I'll be using it a lot to come! (because, did you see those rainbows?)

Thanks for reading and I hope you like my design! (but then again, how can you not when there's rainbows)

  1. Fun mani! The Claire's Disco I have from a few years back doesn't look like yours--mine is still silver holo glitter but not bars. Guess they're running out of names for polish. :)

    1. Thanks Karen! Yeah it's so odd, I saw yours with the glitter and was very confused that they were just recycling polish names! Anyway, Disco is a good name for both holographic bar glitter and holo normal glitter :)

    1. Thanks a lot! I spotted it by accident and couldn't resist all the holographicness - even though I normally don' really like bar glitter, I adore this one! :)

  4. These look amazing! So rainbowy, and the tear-shaped stud is the perfect accent :) I have a holo bar glitter but I hadn't come up with a way to use it -- maybe I'll try this!

    1. Jum jum rainbows! I saw the bottle and was so perplexed at the rainbowyness, it's amazing :D I have to warn you, this idea was better in theory than in practice as the bar glitter kept sticking to my scotch tape! Although it worked out fine in the end :) Thanks Lucy!

  5. I love holo glitter! I'm usually not a fan of bar glitters but I really like the way you used the bar glitter in a vertical strip here... they go along the direction of the strip and don't look like little hairs like they can sometimes lol :)

    1. Thank you! I normally also don't like bar glitter (yep, they are total hair look-a-likes!) so I deliberately used it like this :) I might try it the "normal" way though sometime, as it's so rainbow-y and I'm curious to see how it looks just swatched :)
