Hello my polish loving friends!
In today's blog post I'll be showing you my recreation of an awesome design by Nail Polish Society - you can see hers here.
I loved it a lot and when she made a little tutorial about it, I decided to recreate the design. I was in a pastel mood, so instead of using bright polishes like Emiline, I used soft colours.
I started out with C03 Evergreen 60s by Catrice as a base - I still need to learn how to properly work with this polish as I had some bubbling (it was okay on my left hand luckily, but looked absolutely awful on my right hand). I then used acrylic paint to paint the hearts (You know those girls in high school who were always dooling hearts and cute things and could draw such perfectly shaped hearts yeah? I was not one of them. I suck at painting hearts.)
I then drew on zebra stripes with black acrylic paint. Zebra stripes are so much harder than I thought! Emiline's zebra print looks awesome of course, and because it looked so good I was under the impression that zebra print wasn't all that hard. WRONG. I am going to practice all summer until I have the perfect zebra print. Yes, I am going from one animal print obsession to the next :D
I originally wanted to do the outline in white - like the original design - but I felt it didn't stand out enough against the pastel green background, so I chose to outline the hearts with the bright variant of the pastel colours I used for the hearts. I used Amazing California Love by OPI, an unnamed purple polish by Guylond and Roarrrrange from Essie. For the yellow outlines I used acrilyc paint again.
That's it for today's blog post! I hope you (sort of) like my recreation, and I promise I'll practice my zebra print! ;)
Thanks for reading!
I love your interpretation! I feel so cool to have inspired these. I think that might be a first for me. So thank you for making me feel so cool. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Emiline! And are you serious? I can't believe no one has tried to recreate one of your designs yet! Maybe it's because they are too awesome and everyone is intimidated ;) I love all of your designs so I might recreate some more if I have the time!
DeleteBeautiful mani! I love the new name of your blog :)
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot Rhea! I'm glad you like the new name too! :)
DeleteLike it! :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Miriam!
Deletei really like your mani more than the original one! i think the pastell base gives it a apecial twist!
ReplyDeleteanother question: how do you like catrice polishes? i'm unsure...
Oh thanks Franziska! Although I don't agree and still like the original more ;) I love Catrice polishes! I think they have great colours and a good assortiment with various finishes, and they're cheap (at least where I live). I also never have any application issues apart from with the polish I used here - I can't seem to make that one work! How come you're unsure? :)
Deletedunno, I'm always a bit unsure when it comes to cheap polishes (they are also cheap in Austria). but maybe they deserve a second chance, when you have such a high opinion of them ;-)
Deletelove hers, love yours, looks great!
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot Jacqui!
DeleteI like hers and I like your take too! I haven't tried zebra stripes yet but I know what you mean... freehand leopard print was sooo hard when I attempted it recently! I think I'll just stick to stamping haha :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm just going to practice zebra print super hard from now on! Practice made me really good at leopard print so I'm hoping zebra will turn out the same. Although stamping is always on option too! :)
DeleteHow that I missed so many lovely manicures, I don't understand??? I usually follow my blog role :(
ReplyDeleteI want to congratulate you for this new domain, I absolutely love the name and it suites you very good! About you loveable mani, well it is to cute not to love it :) I like the idea that you added the zebra print!
Don't worry Andrea, I'm glad you found me now with my new blog name! I'm glad you like it! :)
DeleteThese look great! I think the pastel background works really well! I'm glad i'm not the only one who finds zebra print hard - I thought it was really easy until I tried it! I think yours have turned out well though - I love the contrast between the pastel base and the hearts! :)
ReplyDeleteHehe I had the exact same thing, I thought zebra would be easy but nope! Thanks Jayna! :)
