Pretty & Polished - Tomboyish Pt. 2

Hi everyone!

You might remember my Tomboyish post from a few months ago - I think most of you do ;)

Well, I now have a follow up post!
You might know that I contacted Pretty & Polished after swatching Tomboyish, because it did not look like the swatch picture on their website AT ALL. To refresh your memories, this was the swatch picture on their website (and yes, "was", because they changed it now - I'll come back to that later):

This is blue, blue and more blue - just the way I like it! Tomboyish was in reality green, no doubt about that. So, I sent an email to the company saying that my Tomboyish didn't look like the swatch picture at all. It was a difficult email conversation, because apparently some of my emails didn't arrive in their inbox and I didn't get some of their emails either, so there was a lot of confusion and the conversation went on way longer than is normally the case.

Eventually, they asked me to send a picture of my polish so I did. They said it might look a bit darker than it should, so they offered to send me a new one from a new batch for free. To me, my Tomboyish doesn't just look a bit darker but it looks like a whole different colour, but anyway, it was  nice of them to offer, and since I really wanted to "true" Tomboyish I said yes.

I must say, this Tomboyish Pt. 2 is still very much green. Here are some pictures of my Tomboyish nr. 2. I used three easy coats plus my Fast Drying Top Coat from Only You.

The picture above is taken in its cold state (excuse the water, I had to make sure my fingers were cold and if I cleaned the water off they would turn lighter again).

Below is the polish in its transition state.

And Tomboyish in its warm state (it's already starting to get cold at the tips again, but unless I wanted to get burns I couldn't keep my fingers in hot water any longer).

So yeah, green. I'm starting to like it more than I did in the very beginning, though. But I'm still not crazy about it.

Now, the thing is: Pretty & Polished have since changed the swatch picture of Tomboyish on their website. It's much more true to the real colours (although the pastel gray/light blue in the warm state on the picture is still just light green with me). Since they changed their swatch picture, I think they have realized that it wasn't colour accurate (I'm not sure if it was because of my complaint or if other people have complained too). New picture:

Source on Pretty & Polished site and source on Galactic Lacquer.

I also have some comparison pictures for you of my Tomboyishes! I did three coats plus top coat of Tomboyish nr. 1 on my ring finger and pinky, and Tomboyish nr. 2 on my pointer and middle finger!

First up is the cold state. These polishes look exactly the same colour in cold state. The only difference I can find is that Tomboyish nr. 1 (ring finger and pinky) looks grittier than nr. 2.

And then the warm state: here, Tomboyish nr. 1 does look a bit darker than nr. 2. It also went cold a bit quicker than nr. 2, hence the dark tips. Nr. 2 in its warm state leans a bit more to gray, whereas nr. 1 is just green.

So, there we go. Nr. 1 is a bit darker in its light state (like the person from P&P who emailed with me said), and it's also a bit grittier - I like nr. 2 more because it's less gritty, to be honest. Overall, there's not much difference, and the biggest problem I had with Tomboyish was the inaccuracy of the swatch picture. Because that has changed now, I can't really say anything more: my goal was to get a more colour accurate picture on their website and that happened - so I'm quite pleased about that.

What do you think of Tomboyish pt. 2? Can you see the difference with pt. 1?

Thanks for reading!

  2. What an interesting story! I'm glad they changed the photo but honestly the up-to-date photo shows more blue than grey-green. As if they used different formulas or something...

    1. Yes, the swatch picture still doesn't entirely look like the polish I received... Very odd, but the new swatch picture at least doesn't differ so dramatically from how it really looks than the old one!

  4. Yeah, I guess that new swatch photo they have is closer, but still so curious how the light color is very different from the bottle they sent. I know colors can pull differently on people, but haven't seen one that's as dramatic as their swatch light blue to your swatch light green. So strange.

    1. Yeah, I agree Karen, it's still strange! I suppose I can't really do anything else about it, I'm glad that I complained the first time and that they changed the swatch picture now anyway.

Top :-)

  7. I am glad that you received this polish, but I don't know if I should like it or not. the dark green shade is pretty but in lighter state I don't like is as much. But it worth trying it, definitely!

    1. Yes, I'm still not entirely convinced that I like it a lot so I understand what you're thinking! I do like the dark green shade :)

  8. Wow, I don't know how you feel, but I would feel pranked anyways! Yes, it's cool that they changed the pic, but it's nevertheless a fraud, that they posted this absolutely inaccurate picture at first. I wouldn't give this polish a second chance.
But your swatch is nice and the text is so funny ("So yeah, green *lol*).

    1. Yeah it's still not a nice feeling! It's not the polish's fault anyway, but it was a bad first experience with the brand and I will need a lot of convincing before I buy anything from P&P again :/

  9. Oooh what a story!! How strange! It's good that they made the effort to rectify the situation though by sending you another one and changing the picture. Your pictures look great as usual and they actually look quite cool with the water left on them lol xx
